GAIL BURTON – AP Former Panthers safety Mike Minter, left, says players were rewarded for big plays such as interceptions and fumble recoveries. A pair of former Carolina Panthers defenders say Panthers’ players would reward teammates for big plays, but it was not the bounty system the New Orleans Saints are accused of using that paid players for hits that knocked opponents out of games. Mike Minter, who played safety for the Panthers in 1997-2006, said during his years in Charlotte veteran players would offer cash bonuses for momentum-changing plays, particularly on special teams.

The Miami Dolphins have won a coin flip against the Carolina Panthers to earn the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, according to the Dolphins’ official website. “I think it makes a big difference,” Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said. “I’ve never been into a draft where I didn’t feel like if you’re at the 10th pick there are nine players and if you’re the 22nd pick there’s usually 20 players so you’re usually right behind it
